5 Best Dog Friendly Beaches in Miami To Visit With Your Fury Friends!

Looking for the best dog friendly beaches in Miami?

The City of Miami received official recognition and certification as a BETTER CITY FOR PETS™ from Mars Petcare, demonstrating the commitment to creating a pet-friendly environment.

Research conducted by TripAdvisor found that 53 percent of respondents travel with their pets and 52 percent stated they would only stay at pet-friendly properties, photo by Dorothy Hong, PAW Program at W South Beach.

According to the American Pet Product Association (APPA), 47 percent of Americans own a dog, and 37 percent own a cat. In addition 67 percent of dog owners say their dog relieves stress.

Miami has taken conscious steps in recent years to ensure its standing as a pet-friendly city. Currently, pet owners are welcome to take their social, friendly, non-aggressive dogs to most City parks, provided they are on a leash. Designated dog park areas are also available at Kennedy Park, Blanche Park and Legion Park.

Aside from parks, there are also a lot of awesome dog beaches in Miami to use – here are our 5 top picks.

Top 5 Dog-Friendly Beaches in Miami

1. Haulover Beach Park

One of the best dog beaches in Miami to kick off our list.

You’ll seriously love this beach if you have a dog as dogs are allowed to be free range at Haulover Beach near lifeguard tower 3, from 8 AM to 3 PM.

2. Bark Beach at North Shore Open Space Park

Another great option to bring your furry friend.

If you are a non resident, this option is a little more costly as it will set you back $25 for non residents of the area (it is just $5 for residents).

If you like a free roaming doggy beach, dogs are allowed to roam free off the leash in this area. As per their website, make sure you dispose of all doggy waste and keep the area clean.

3. South Pointe Park

Probably one of the most popular places to bring your dog in Miami. However, if you want a off-leash free roaming doggy experience, this is not the place for you as all dogs at South Pointe must be leashed.

What we love about this park is it is not just great for dogs but also great to get some exercise in too with lots of walking paths available. A seriously good dog beach in Miami.

4. Lummus Park

Another good option for dog owners who don’t mind keeping their friend on a leash. This park is always totally packed with people so it has a great vibe.

There are also lots of food, shopping and cafes around as well as an outdoors gym where you can tie your dog up for a while while you get a workout in for yourself.

5. Hobie Island Beach Park

Last but not least, we will leave you with one of our favorites – Hobie Island Beach Park.

Be aware, you do need to pay a toll to access Hobie Island. The good news is that there is no parking fee once you do reach the beach.

Initiatives in Miami to make it more pet friendly

“Initiatives like BETTER CITY FOR PETS refine our comprehensive approach to improving quality of life for all,” said Miami Mayor Francis Suarez. “This recognition is a testament to our commitment to continuing to foster a pet-friendly community that prioritizes the emotional and physical benefits of pet companionship.”

Additionally, the City recently completed an assessment of the Greater Downtown area – including Wynwood, Brickell, Overtown and Edgewater – gathering information on policies, services, and facilities related to pets.

The purpose of the assessment was to determine how Pet-Friendly the City/Downtown area is towards pets and their owners and to identify areas where the City can further improve pet-friendliness.

Mars Petcare launched the BETTER CITY FOR PETS™ certification, an extension of the BETTER CITIES FOR PETS™ program which works with local governments, businesses and non-profits to help communities make four-legged friends welcome.

The City of Miami Beach is also pet-friendly, dogs are allowed in parks, on the boardwalk and along Ocean Drive, but not allowed on the beach at any time. This rule does not seem to be enforced though, as in the evenings everywhere one looks there are dogs.

Resident Michael Smith shares, “I see dogs urinating and even [defecating] on the beach, it’s so disgusting and I’m baffled how pet owners think it is okay. I understand people love their dogs but it is a law for a reason.”
